FAQs about tanning at Majestic Sun Salon
Your first tanning session is determined by your skin type by our specially trained staff. We will assess what type of equipment might be the best option for you, and we will offer consultation. We do not recommend ever tanning the maximum exposure time for your first tanning session. We believe slow and gradual is the most effective and responsible tanning practice. Lotions will help increase and accelerate your tan by 60% percent.
Yes A quality lotion will increase your tan up to 60%. A quality indoor tanning lotion promotes the retention of moisture, thereby keeping your skin smooth and supple while minimizing flaking. The newest indoor tanning lotions offer paraben free products, amazing anti-aging skincare properties, and so much more. Concerned because you suffer from skin condition such as eczema or psoriasis? Don’t worry! We have something for everyone to achieve the best results.
Absolutely not. At Majestic Sun Salon, we pride ourselves on performing routine maintenance on all our equipment so you always have the best tanning experience. There are different types of equipment, so be sure to check with your sales associate who can advise you on the different levels of UVA and UVB.
We give you the utmost privacy in your tanning. You may tan with a bathing suit if you prefer. All you need is protective eye wear.
Colored hair benefits from a solar cap, this will protect your hair’s vibrant color from the UV Exposure. For acrylic nails we suggest “nail savers” so your acrylics remain intact, and do not turn yellow. Tattoos can also fade with sun exposure. We suggest a tattoo fade-resistant stick.
NO, outdoor products should ONLY be used outdoors, as they can cause a film on the acrylic, which actually inhibits your tan. Ask us for recommendations.
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! It is the most effective way to keep your skin supple. We highly suggest our HEMP moisturizer, chock full of beneficial antioxidants.
Absolutely! A tan can take up to 24 hours to develop. You can not “wash” away your tan. Try to steer clear of sunless tanning products, shaving, and exfoliating. Many of our products that have bronzing agents in them are best to be applied and then wait 3 hours to shower.
Please consult your physician. Although we know that there is no danger from UV rays since they cannot penetrate deeper than the dermis (skin layer). Pregnant women are advised to be cautious with saunas, hot tubs and other things that can cause excessive heat to build up in the uterus.
When you are taking photosensitizing medication it is not recommended to tan outdoors or indoors. If you aren’t sure, ask your doctor, or ask our tanning consultant to see a list of medications, which can greatly increase the risk of overexposure.
Phototherapy (use of UV light) has been used in treating the skin problems of this condition. Tanning acts as a drying agent and help keep outbreaks to a minimum. If you are medicated on Retin-A or tetracycline, please take extreme care with UV exposure.
Many health advocates and physicians believe light therapy is an effective treatment for depression and Seasonal Affect Disorder.
“Because increased sunlight improves symptoms, light therapy is often a main treatment for many people with seasonal affective disorder,” Mullenix wrote in the story. “Light therapy mimics outdoor light and causes a biochemical change in your brain that lifts your mood, relieving symptoms of seasonal affective disorder?” (source)
For traditional tanning, no appointment is necessary at our Majestic Sun Salon locations. We make tanning quick and convenient with multiple options. For Mystic and Red Light Therapy- no appointment is necessary either. You do however, need an appointment for Airbrush Sunless Tanning. This is a custom service where a certified technician must be on hand.
There’s a new 10% federal tax on UV indoor tanning.
The indoor tanning excise tax (10%) was imposed by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (aka, Healthcare Reform or “ObamaCare”). The law states that all providers of UV indoor tanning services must charge their customers an additional 10% excise tax for those services starting on July 1, 2010. This tax is imposed all over the United States, at every tanning salon. This does not apply for Mystic Tanning or Airbrush Tanning.
FAQs about Mystic SPRAY tanning at Majestic Sun Salon
It is a special sunless booth that utilizes patented spray technology which sweeps side to side in an airbrush motion. The Mystic Tan system allows you to choose from several color cartridges and additives so that you can create the perfect tan, and achieve the desired results.
It is best to wear nothing. However, if you do choose to wear a bathing suit or underwear, please note that it may become stained. The bronzer additive products are water-soluble and should wash out, but the DHA may permanently stain your undergarments.
At Majestic Sun Salon, we will provide you with a disposable shower cap for your hair. Please make sure the cap does not slip below your hair line or it will leave a line. You may opt to buy adhesive footies to protect the soles of your feet from the DHA.
For the best results, Majestic Sun Salon’s professional staff will instruct you on the benefits of a barrier cream to protect your easily stained body areas (eg elbows, knees, heels, wrists). Baby wipes or wash cloths are provided to remove barrier cream. You may towel off like a shower. You will not streak.
Mystic Tan suggests a minimum of 4 hours for the best results. DHA needs time to react with your skin. If you showered before 4 hours, you may diminish the intensity of your tan. The insta-color bronzer you may have added into your session is a cosmetic bronzer. It will wash off after your first shower, but will still reveal the long lasting, DHA-based Tan.
Yes. Chlorinated pool water and salt water may cause streaking and may diminish the quality and duration of your Mystic Tan.
No. Unlike creams and lotions your purchase at your local drug store, etc- Mystic Tan is an evenly- controlled system.
Some individuals do experience a slight smell from the product. They are special aromas you may infuse such a desert bloom, coconut line, etc to offset any scent.
A Mystic Tan will last 5-7 days. To make your tan last, we have several prolong products, ph balanced body washes, exfoliates, and moisturizers to maintain the integrity of your tan.
FAQs about Red Light Therapy by Majestic Sun Salon
Red Light penetrates to the bottoms of the skin’s dermis layer and directly to the fatty later. Red Light Therapy stimulates fibroblast cells which boost the production of collagen and elastin proteins.
No. Red Light emits zero UV light and will not tan you.
Red Light Therapy improves the tone and increases skin elasticity. It also helps to minimize wrinkles, fine lines, and pore size. The fading of scars, stretch marks, age spots, and hyper pigmentation have also been found. It will create smooth skin for a more youthful glow.
Yes. Studies have been done that it helps to reduce pain and inflammation front tendonitis, arthritis, torn muscles, fibromyalgia, broken bones, strains, and nerve damage.
Each session is 15 minutes. Results require 2-3 times a week, for 60 to 90 days, will result in reduction of visible fine lines, wrinkles and much more. We suggest 3 times a week, for 6-8 weeks. Afterwards, you may consider a maintenance package.
If there was something out there that “lasted forever” someone would have bottled it and been a billionaire. All healthy decisions require commitment. Just like everything else, maintenance is key.
As a precaution, Red Light Therapy is not recommended for clients with Epilepsy or women whom are pregnant.
We recommend weekly exfoliation for better penetration. We also suggest doing therapy without make up or moisturizers. For better results, ask about our pre- products and post-products for maximum results.
FAQs about Custom Airbrush
The tanning agent used in all self-tanning formulas is dihydroxyacetone (DHA). This ingredient does not produce a “real tan” by increasing the skin’s melanin levels, rather it creates a tanned appearance by developing a brown color on the surface of the skin.
We recommend wearing something that you don’t mind getting airbrush solution on. Don’t worry, it will wash out! Most clients wear bikinis. Our salons can provide a bandeau top. It is optional to wear tops, but bottoms are mandatory for all female and male clients.
You will initially see a cosmetic bronzer on your skin. The color itself takes 2 to 4 hours to develop.
Although you will see color building within the first 4 hours, the DHA can continue to develop up to 16 hours. We highly recommend waiting till the day after to shower.
Unlike over-the-counter lotions that last 3-5 days, you can rest assured our Norvell system will last 5-7 days. We have we have even been told by clients that, with stellar maintenance, their sunless tan has lasted 7-10 days!
Norvell® Sunless Tanning Solution is a formulated solution, that when sprayed on a tanner’s skin, can give the tanner a “just off the beach” look.
DHA is an ingredient derived from sugar cane and beets, which reacts with the amino acids in the skin to create the darkening reaction of a tan.
With our line, we overpass that obstacle. Our Airbrush system utilizes the aromatic combination of raspberry and almonds.
Ahh the exfoliation question! You should exfoliate before every sunless session. Using a mild shower gel/exfoliant, such as Amber Sun™ Body Scrub, can be done one day prior to the session. You should allow at least 8 hours between body scrub use and the sunless session.
We recommend avoiding these situations for the first 48 hours following your spray tan. Chlorinated pools & spas can increase the rate in which the skin exfoliates causing the tan to wear and fade.
Our Airbrush takes 8-12 minutes to completely dry. You can reduce the time by asking your certified technician to remove the spray gun and “blow dry your skin”.
It is normal for there to be a slight sticky feel immediately following your airbrush service. The special formula allows for that feeling to diminish in 8-12 minutes.
No. You may feel a false sense of security. You still need to protect yourself in the sun.
Check with your physician to be sure Airbrush tanning is the right option for you.
